On Saturday, February 4 through Sunday, February 5, more than 190 ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ Football alumni and their families graced our campus to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the University’s 1998 MAAC Championship football team.

The two-day weekend celebration kicked off on Saturday, February 4 with a reception at Walsh Athletic Center where welcome remarks were delivered by Vice President for University Advancement Wally Halas. Guests were then given a tour of the Walsh Athletic Center, the Weight Room, and Mahoney Arena. Saturday’s activities ended with a reception at the Charles F. Dolan School of Business Dining Room where Vice President for Athletics Paul Schlickmann shared remarks. Events on Sunday, February 5 began with Mass at Egan Chapel. After, football alumni and guests joined at Mahoney Arena for the men’s basketball game versus Iona, where during halftime the 1998 football team was recognized with a special ceremony.

While this group of men have not played football together at ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ since 1998, their connection and support for the University and ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ Athletics remain stronger than ever. More than 30 football alumni showed their support for ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ student-athletes by joining the Monarch program—a membership exclusively for former ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ Athletics players who pledge to give $1,250 or more to a sport of their choice within a five-year period. The funds generated by these football alumni will be invested to update the ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ Athletics Weight Room and sports performance program. As a token of appreciation, each of these Monarch members had a plaque created in their honor which is displayed on the Weight Room’s Monarch board, and will receive complimentary access to a number of Athletics events.

“The support we received from the 1998 ÍâÍøÁÔÆæ Football team, as well as their support as Monarch Stags, not only shows the strength of their connection with the University, but is also a testament to the University as a whole and the indelible mark it leaves on each student that joins our community,” shares Associate Director of Athletic Development/Associate Athletics Director Mike Jarvis II.
