Brock's efforts were key to her team securing first place in a Shark Tank-style competition.

Sophia Haber Brock ’26 is making her mark at the College of Arts and Sciences, where she is majoring in Communication with minors in Marketing and Film, Television, and Media Arts. This past summer, she completed a ten-week internship at BIC as an eCommerce and Digital Content Intern, contributing to the development of a groundbreaking new product.

In her role as the finance lead for the team, Brock displayed remarkable analytical abilities and business insight. She spearheaded a comprehensive competitive analysis, crafted detailed financial projections, and confidently presented her findings. Her efforts were key to her team securing first place in a Shark Tank-style competition.

“I conducted a competitive analysis to strategically position our product in the North American market,” Brock explains. “I highlighted its pricing advantages and compared its features to those of competitors, ultimately showcasing its superiority in both sustainability and user experience.” In addition, Brock created a Profit and Loss (P&L) statement with five-year financial projections, outlining anticipated sales, costs, profitability, and key factors like discounts, rebates, and net sales. Her analysis also included gross profit margins, inflation rates, and market share, with a graph showing the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over five years.

The team’s winning product, The Pixel Peel, is a customizable DIY laptop skin offering a sustainable solution for personalization and productivity. Sophia played a pivotal role in developing the product's pricing strategy and financial projections, contributing to its success in the marketplace.

“At first, this role seemed daunting because I had no prior experience or coursework in finance,” Sophia reflects. “But through research and connecting with finance experts at BIC, I found the work fascinating. It was rewarding to succeed in a role that pushed me outside of my comfort zone.”

Grateful for the mentorship and collaboration she experienced, Brock is excited about what lies ahead. Her internship at BIC has provided her with invaluable experience and a solid foundation for her future career aspirations.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the 'sharks' for their support of our Pixel Peel! I also want to thank the mentors whose guidance was invaluable," she said. "I am grateful to have worked with my four teammates as well as our two advisors. I am so proud of what we accomplished together. What a fantastic experience."
