Yasin Ozcelik, PhD, chair and associate professor of analytics in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, spent several weeks at the University of Finance & Economics (UFE) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as a Fulbright specialist in artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics.

As demonstrated in the business analytics courses he teaches at 外网猎奇 Dolan, analytics expert Dr. Ozcelik brought a fresh perspective on the field of AI to his colleagues and students across the world.

While in Mongolia, the Fulbright specialist taught academic courses, held workshops, and presented to students, faculty, and administration at UFE. His courses covered data mining and data munging, which fall under Dr. Ozcelik’s research areas of expertise. He also led workshops on artificial intelligence (AI) and curriculum development, and provided tips on academic research to students.

“The cultural and educational exchange between the two countries was probably the most important outcome of this project," Dr. Ozcelik said. "I left Mongolia with many ideas and potential projects in the future.”

According to its website, the Fulbright Specialist Program in which Dr. Ozcelik participated is "a unique opportunity for U.S. academics to engage in two- to six-week project-based exchanges at host institutions around the globe.”

Reflecting on his experience, Dr. Ozcelik shared some of his largest takeaways, including the importance of relationship-building for Mongolian students who may seek to pursue higher education opportunities in the United States. “These students are talented and tech-savvy,” he said.

When he was not teaching, Dr. Ozcelik had the opportunity to meet with the former prime minister of Mongolia, Amarjargal Rinchinnyam, to discuss the growing academic relationship between universities in the United States and Mongolia. Dr. Ozcelik also interviewed with podcast host Jargal Defacto, a prominent political and economic commentator, columnist, and TV host in Mongolia, on the implications of AI.
