In a School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) podcast, Dean Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD, explores "the loneliness epidemic" —  a widely recognized public health issue affecting students and policymakers alike.

The "Unpacking the Loneliness Epidemic" podcast was co-hosted by licensed psychologist Clinesha Johnson, PsyD, assistant dean of students, and Anthony Santella, DrPH, MPH, MCHES, CPH, professor and director of the Master of Public Health program.

In a 2023 advisory on the epidemic of loneliness and isolation, the U.S. Surgeon General highlights the public health impact of loneliness, linking it to increased risks of mental and physical health issues including depression and anxiety.

Through the lens of these three higher-education professionals, Dr. Bilias Lolis's SEHD podcast episode, available below, provides actionable tips on how college students can embrace small moments of connection and combat loneliness during one of the most transitional periods of their lives.

“Loneliness is not a flaw, and it's not a failure. It's a signal — a deeply human one — that we are wired for connection,” Dr. Lolis said.

This is the School of Education and Human Development’s first Dean’s Dialogue podcast episode as part of an ongoing podcast series on critical topics with expert insights, backed by research.
